Quinta da Gaivosa (Alves de Sousa)

STORY

The Alves de Sousa family has been making wine in the Douro Valley for five generations. The old and ever-present wish to have the very best expression of a Douro vineyard leads Alves de Sousa to work only with indigenous grape varieties from the family’s holdings. The quality and distinctive nature of their wines have been widely recognised, with accolades and mentions in highly regarded domestic and international publications. One very special highlight was the ‘Producer of the Year’ award, presented in 1999 and again in 2006 by the most influential Portuguese wine magazine (Revista de Vinhos), with which Quinta da Gaivosa became the first estate to receive the most coveted and prestigious distinction for Portuguese wine producers more than once.
