The wine expresses itself directly in the heritage of matriarch Dona Antónia Ferreira, while João Brito e Cunha is an example of the new generation of winemakers and producers that have settled in the Douro, launching personal projects. Quinta de São José is a family project that was launched in early 1999 by João’s father, Ruy Brito e Cunha, inspired by the excellent location of the buildings in the Quinta, practically on the bank of the river. The structures were restored, respecting the framing and materials typical to the Douro region. The estate has 10 hectares of vineyards. Many events, dinners and wine lunches are organised
at Quinta de S. José, as well as vineyard visits with the producer and winemaker. A wine shop for sale to the public has been added to the estate. Access to the Quinta is made easy by the existence of a private pier in front of Quinta de S. José, providing visitors with the opportunity for a memorable visit.
